Mary was a renowned artist and potter working and living at Brickfields in Compton, Surrey until her death in December 2016. Specialising in slipware pottery in the 17th century style Mary created some wonderful pieces and I will be listing several over the next few weeks. Mary wasn’t always prepared to sell what was on show in her pottery! However, some 10 years ago she did allow me to buy this rare, and perhaps unique, St Andrew Plaque (c. 1991 - 10” x 13”). Extremely well decorated and in perfect condition with reverse inscribed “Andreas Herefordus - venerabilis archidiaconus in XL annos sacerdos maim S MCMXC1” I believe that this is an accurate translation of her script and whilst my Latin is somewhat poor it appears to celebrate 40 years service of an archdeacon – signed “MW”
