Fine and rare "open mouth" Toby jug c.1780

Fine and rare "open mouth" Toby jug c.1780

The open mouth on this fine Toby jug is a rare feature and whilst it is very similar to the mouth of a normal "ordinary" Toby jug it is quite distinctive. The manganese loss on his hat is quite rightly being kept by the new owner as it has probably been like this for some 240 years and is a lovely sign of age and originality - indicative of the relatively rudimentary firing process in the 18th century. A great Toby jug!
